Dr.
Bruce Douglas accepts presidency at Sterling College

Sterling, KS - August, 2005
The Sterling College Board of Trustees has
announced that Dr. Bruce Douglas of Toledo, Ohio, has accepted
the presidency of Sterling College. He will assume his duties
in mid-September.
"It is with great pleasure that we announce
Dr. Bruce Douglas as the next president of Sterling College,"
said Sterling College Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Tom Gray.
"Dr. Douglas' experiences, skills and interests have prepared
him well for the challenges facing Christian higher education,
and we look forward to Dr. Douglas' arrival on the Sterling
College campus."
"We are absolutely thrilled to have Dr. Douglas
accept the presidency of Sterling College," said Alan Cureton,
Sterling College Board of Trustee member and chair of the
search committee. "Having an individual of such high caliber
and gracious spirit agree to the challenge of leading Sterling
College into new educational realms is an answer to prayer
for all of us."
"It's an honor to be chosen to serve as president
of Sterling College," said Douglas. "Liberal arts education
informed by Christian beliefs is important. Science determines
too many aspects of our life, and scientific discovery requires
search for meaning in order to guarantee its use for good.
"Reason and revelation go together with a historic Christian
commitment to the relationship of faith and reason. I will
seek respect and empowerment of others at Sterling through
charism empowered by Christian leadership."
Douglas' previous experience includes the
interim presidency and board chair of the University of
Toledo; founder of a public policy institute; creator of
construction, engineering and development companies engaged
in urban redevelopment using leading edge design concepts;
and organizer, fundraiser and chairman of Toledo Regional
Growth Partnership, a multi-county economic development
entity.
Douglas also ran in Ohio's gubernatorial race
in 1998.
Douglas received his Ph.D. in history in 2004
from University of Toledo; his Masters of Public Administration
in 1995 from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government;
and bachelor's degrees in Civil Engineering and Physics
from the University of Michigan and Kalamazoo College respectively.

Dr. Milton Pippenger named interim president at MCC

Manhattan, KS - May, 2005
On Friday, May 6, the MCC Board of Trustees
named Dr. Milton L. (Milt) Pippenger as the interim president
of Manhattan Christian College. The appointment will be effective
when President Kenneth Cable retires on June 30, 2005 and
will continue until a permanent president for the college
can be found.
“Dr. Pippenger brings administrative experience,
proven leadership and a keen understanding of Manhattan Christian
College and her constituency to this position,” says Lyle
Jones, Chairman of the Board. “The trustees are confident
that his leadership style will work well with the team of
experienced administrators already in place at the college.”
Pippenger, 64, resides in Manhattan and is currently
serving as superintendent of schools for Clay Center, Kansas
County Schools. He is in his 18th year as a superintendent
and 43rd year since he began teaching in 1962.
Prior to this position, Pippenger was a superintendent
in Garden City and Hiawatha, Kansas. While at Garden City
he was one of four finalists for National Superintendent of
the Year recognized for the transitions and academic growth
he led in this culturally diverse district. At the collegiate
level, Pippenger has taught for a few years at the University
of Kansas and San Jose Christian College.
Pippenger earned his B.S. in elementary education
and his M.S. in education from Kansas State University and
at the University of Kansas he earned an Ed.D. in Educational
Administration. Pippenger’s intimate knowledge and experience
with MCC comes from his involvement as a member of the Board
of Trustees since 1989 and as a long-time donor.
“I am humbled and pleased with the Trustees’
confidence in me to lead the college through this transition
to a new president,” remarked Pippenger.
The on-going search for a permanent president
will continue under the Board’s direction. “Our goal is to
name a president as soon as possible,” said Jones.
